Be sure to get your boat back in the water in good sailing order and join in this new spring event.

The new Classic Regatta for Cowes, Cowes Spring Classics, is a new regatta for wooden classics designed before 1970. The Regatta is taking place from 11th - 13th May 2018 and is based at Shepherds Wharf Marina. The organisers, Mary Scott-Jackson of MSJ Events and Martin Nott, a local wooden boat builder felt it would be a welcome addition to the existing classics regattas that are held on the Solent and a great opener to the sailing season giving owners the opportunity to get their boats ready and out on the water to enjoy some friendly racing.

The regatta is to open to a wide range of classic yachts and hopes to attract entries from Cruisers and  Cruise Racers, Gaff rigged yachts and Pilot Cutters, Day boats and Raters, Classic Meter Yachts, affordable Classic Cruisers plus modern Spirit of Tradition Yachts. The racing is being organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in classes using either IRC, KLR or OGA handicaps and with shoreline starts will provide a great spectacle for spectators.

Co-organiser Martin Nott said, "by holding the event in May we are hoping to extend the racing season for thse fabulous boats. We are inviting a very wide range of classic yachts large and small and although we expect people to take the racing seriously, it wil be a relaxed regatta conducted in a gentlemanly manner in keeping with the age of the yachts."

Entry for the regatta is now open and details on how to enter can be found online or contact mary [at] msjevents [dot] co [dot] uk (subject: Classic%20Regatta) (Mary Scott-Jackson) by email or phone +44 (0)1983 245100.

APRIL UPDATE
The organisers are keen to encourage more small gaffers, cruisers and day boats to join in the first Cowes Spring Classics, so with the generous support of their sponsors they have reduced the entry fee for boats under 9m to £100 (was £180). For this you get 2 nights mooring in Shepards Marina, 3 races over the weekend and skippers welcome drinks. Plus a full optional social program with Friday crew BBQ, Saturday dinner (dress to suit the age of your boat), Sunday prize-giving and event bar.
