Brian Hammett, who died on 20 September 2018, was a consummate sailor and a leading member of many yachting organisations, as well as a published Arthur Ransome authority. His memory is to be honoured by the first of what is hoped will become an annual series of Memorial Talks.
This first talk is being organised by the Nancy Blackett Trust, of which he was a vice-president, together with the Arthur Ransome Society (TARS), where he had been Eastern Region chairman, the Cruising Association (Suffolk Section) and the Royal Harwich Yacht Club.
Many OGA members around the UK, but in particular from the East Coast and Netherlands areas, will remember Brian as Association President, 2006 - 2009 and a stalwart member of the East Coast Gaffers Committee attending events in 'Avola' on both sides of the North Sea.
The Memorial Talk will take place at the Royal Harwich YC on Friday 20 March, 2020, at 6.30pm, followed by a dinner at the club for those who wish to stay on (doors open 6.00pm, dinner 8.00pm).
The speaker will be Julia Jones, who has stepped in to replace Libby Purves who is ill. Her title is “Racundra, Peter Duck, and Avola: Unwilling to accept a final resting place."
Tickets, at £10 for the talk only, or £25.00 for the talk and dinner, they are available online via the RHYC website, but the dinner is nearly sold out and tickets for the talk are going fast,
