On Monday 29 August, two BTS apprentices Dave McCallum and Joe Boothby sailed from Blyth in the TSI North Sea Regatta to Gothenburg aboard the ketch ‘Maybe’.
After the regatta they continued aboard as trainees, bound for Gosport. Press of weather fetched them up in Harwich. Their trip was paid for by a combination of their own fundraising, the Sir James Knott Trust, the R W Mann Trust, the OGA Jubilee Youth fund as well as funds raised within North East OGA. Hearty thanks to all the above and to Sue Lewis and Howard who helped the trainees to return home from Harwich.
The tall ships event itself was an overall spectacular success for the town and port of Blyth.
We’re now looking forward to our own Festival in June 2017 and to the next TSI Regatta at Sunderland, 2018.
