Competition rules, 2019

All entrants must be members of the OGA, their family or crew.

Entry Procedure

All entries must be made online either via the OGA website by logged in members of the OGA or via the online form for any device, including phones and tablets.
All entries must be made by the photographer in person (or by an OGA member on behalf of a family member or crew member).
Up to two entries are allowed in each category.
The closing date for entry is 31 December 2019.

Photographs entered must have been taken between 1 January and 31 December 2019.
The photographs must not have been entered in any other photographic competition.
Each photograph must carry a title (max. 20 characters) and caption (max. 60 characters).
Digital processing is encouraged to maximise the features of a good photograph and for minor corrections to horizon, exposure and cropping. You need to be familiar with this for whatever system you use. Extreme techniques are discouraged and may be penalised.
The entrant will retain copyright of the submitted photographs, but the OGA has the right to use them for publicity, promotion or records online and in print in perpetuity, with due credit given to the photographer.

Judging and prizes

Shortlisting and judging is carried out within the OGA. Our judge this year is Bob Aylott. Photographs will be judged on their relevance to the category, photographic quality and their impact through atmosphere or context.
Three prizes are awarded in each category.

Prizes for 2019 will be nautical books from Bloomsbury Publishing, the home of Adlard Coles Nautical, Reeds and Conway.
We are grateful to both companies for supporting us in this way.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the AGM in Bristol, January 2020. The winning photographs will be featured in the Spring 2020 issue of Gaffers Log and on the OGA website.
